Group Mentoring and Coaching

Mentoring and building community are essential elements for graduating and developing a diverse pool of scientists. improvscience creates the group coaching environment in which graduate students and postdocs develop the social, professional skills (communication, working with others, leadership) needed to build a growing career.

Creating your professional career and managing life go beyond checking of items on a to do list. It means growing and developing technically and emotionally. So, how do you make choices on behalf of your growth and the growth of those around you?

Dr. Holmes leads coaching groups for professional development of people in STEM related fields. Her goal is to create an environment in which everyone can get help with the emotional, performative, and strategic (philosophical and political) challenges of creating their careers.

improvscience mentoring workshops improve participants' capacity to mentor students from diverse backgrounds through collaborative communication. Faculty play a critical role in shaping the direction, culture and productivity of their research group. Yet, advancing research while developing students from a variety of socio-economic and educational backgrounds is challenging.
