Nurturing scientists as improvisation

This introduction builds on the relationship of the conference to systems biologist Uri Alon who has been speaking, singing and writing about nurturing environments for scientists. We met at cold spring harbor in 2009 at the Computational Cell Biology meeting. Together we held the first experimental improv workshop for scientists at Harvard Medical School. Two years later, I led an improv workshop for scientists at the 2011 Computational Cell Biology meeting. In this introduction, i talk of the relationship of Uri's nurturing environments for scientists to improvisation and the improvisation workshops.
