Celebrating and Cultivating Rich Discourse in the Academe

Thursday, May 17, 2018

Educators in public institutions are committed to creating an environment in which students from all walks of life are able to learn and grow. In the past few years, America’s differences and divisions around race, gender and politics in the country are increasingly visible. We have come to recognize that people in America are talking only with people whose opinions, life experiences and beliefs are similar to their own.

How can educators create environments for civil discourse in their classrooms and departments? In this workshop, participants are invited to practice the art of listening, asking questions and building conversations in the face of disagreements. Participants will bring conversations and situations to which they would like to create new responses.
