Poetic Conversations with Art
Raquell Holmes and Jacqueline Hayward have selected paintings, photos and drawings from the art collection of LeVell Holmes*. The select pieces will be on display at Johnny’s Java Cotati and this Kudoboard throughout the festival.
We invite you to create poetic conversations: your words in response to drawings, photos and paintings from the art collection of Dr. LeVell Holmes. Add your poem to the Kudoboard. It might be long, short, light or profound, a haiku, whatever words or shapes the image evokes for you.
Then join us in person at Poetic Conversations: A reading of festival poetry on June 30, 10:30 am - 12pm (Pacific) for a poetry reading. Read your own or another’s poem as we look at the drawings and paintings together. Readings will be recorded and posted to Freedom Festival platforms. For more details on poetry reading, see Poetic Conversations: A reading of festival poetry .
*Dr. LeVell Holmes was a cultural historian who felt “The ideal history professor is one who can talk about music, science and art as well as political events.” In addition to creating the Ethnic Studies program of Sonoma State University, he found friends, family and warmth in people around the world.
